Before you pivot, pause.

Midyear Reset: Cut the Fluff, Tighten the Focus. Angela Rakis.

We’re halfway through the year. Not in a “how is it already June?!” kind of way but in a “this is your moment to recalibrate” kind of way. (But also, how is it already June??).

What you planned in January? Some of it worked. Some of it didn’t. And some of it… you’re still doing out of habit, not because it’s actually helping. This is where most business owners go wrong.

We often go in one of these directions:

  • Push harder on everything (hello, burnout), or

  • Abandon the plan entirely and start over (hello, chaos)

But you and me, we are not doing either. We’re getting smarter.

Stop Guessing. Look at the Numbers.

Before you pivot, pause. What’s actually driving your business right now?

  • Where is your revenue really coming from?

  • What is selling without you constantly pushing?

  • Where are people naturally leaning in?

  • What are you spending time on that’s not moving anything forward?

If you don’t know the answers, that’s ok. That’s what June is for. That's your first problem to solve. Not your branding. Not your website. Not your next social media post. Your clarity.

Keep What’s Working (Even If It’s Not Flashy)

There’s always something quietly working. It might not be the thing you thought would work. It might not even be the thing you want to be known for. Doesn’t matter.

If it’s working, we pay attention. This is where growth actually comes from. Doubling down on what’s already gaining traction, not chasing something new because it feels more exciting.

Cut What’s Not (Yes, Even If You Like It)

Here’s the hard part. Some things need to go.

  • The offer/product that confuses people

  • The platform that drains your energy

  • The “strategy” that’s really just busywork in cute shoes

If it’s not driving results or building momentum, it’s noise. And noise is expensive.

Oh, how I loved my Office Hours! But it had to go. The effort didn’t provide a return. I still wanted to focus on building a business support community, but I had to regroup. (Click here to learn about Business Unplugged!). Shout out to my team of Mikki and Alyssa from DCA Virtual for calling this out for me. Sometimes we just don’t see it ourselves.

Realign for the Second Half

Now we rebuild, but tighter. Ask yourself:

  • What do I want more of in the next 6 months? (revenue, time, better clients, visibility…)

  • What needs to change to make that possible?

  • Where do I need to focus consistently—not occasionally?

This is your Q3/Q4 strategy. Not a full reinvention. A refinement.

Make It Actionable (or It Won’t Happen)

Clarity without action is just a nice thought. Turn your reset into something real.

  • 1–2 priority goals for the next 90 days

  • The key actions that actually drive those goals

  • What you’re not doing anymore

That last one matters just as much.

You don’t need more ideas. You need tighter alignment between what you’re doing and what actually works. That’s how you build momentum and how you finish the year strong.
