Falling in Love, Again

Remember why you started this journey in the first place.

Running your own business is a labor of love, but sometimes it can feel like the “labor” outweighs the “love.” After 5, 6, 7 years, the honeymoon phase is long gone, and what was once your passion project might feel more like an endless list of tasks, challenges, and responsibilities. Isn’t there a thing called the 7-year itch??
If that sounds familiar, don’t worry. It’s not a sign you’re doing something wrong—it’s a sign that it’s time to reconnect with what made you fall in love with your business in the first place.
Let’s rekindle that spark.
Rediscover What You Love
When was the last time you paused to reflect on the parts of your business that light you up? Here are a few ways to reconnect with your “why”:
Revisit Your Vision: Pull out your original business plan or notes from when you first started. What excited you most back then? Are you still aligned with that vision, or is it time to evolve?
Celebrate Wins: Take a moment to acknowledge how far you’ve come. It’s easy to focus on what’s next, but celebrating past successes can reignite your motivation.
Ask for Feedback: Talk to your customers, clients, or team about how your business has impacted them. Hearing their stories can remind you why you started this journey.
Show Love to Your Customers & Team
Your customers are the heart of your business. Strengthening those relationships not only feels good but also makes good business sense. The same holds true for your team - whether they are employees or outside contractors. Here are a few simple ways to show your appreciation:
Send a Thank-You Note: A handwritten note can make a lasting impression. It’s a small gesture that shows you care.
Host a Customer Appreciation Event: A virtual webinar or an in-person open house, create an opportunity to connect and say thank you. I host monthly Deep Dive sessions with my clients. They are free and it’s a time to connect, get some stuff done, and express gratitude. Now that I write this, it could probably be more about gratitude.
Spotlight Your Customers: Share stories of how your clients or customers use your products or services. It’s a great way to celebrate them while showcasing your value.
Love Yourself as a Business Owner
It’s hard to love your business if you’re running on empty. Take time this month to focus on your own well-being:
Delegate: What tasks are draining your energy? Can you delegate or outsource them?
Set Boundaries: Protect your time by setting clear work hours and taking breaks when needed.
Invest in Your Growth: Whether it’s a course, a coach, or a conference, prioritize your own professional development.
